Near Mission Beach

Here's the final version of "Near Mission Beach." This and other paintings of mine will be showing at the Carmel Roasting Company coffee shop at the Crossroads Shopping Center in Carmel, starting at the beginning of March. Stop by and have a look if you're in the neighborhood.

Oak and Briar

Another Century Plant

Here's a closer view of a century plant. One of my favorite things about these plants is the impression left by outer leaves upon inner ones, before they grow and spread out. It's a subtle thing, and I tried to suggest it in this painting.

Trail to the Lagoon

This time of year the Carmel River swells and pushes against the sand bar that separates it from the Pacific. Steelhead fingerlings school in the cold water, fleeing from shadows of wheeling gulls, and awaiting their chance to begin another phase of life.

The Carmel Lagoon is a beautiful place, for these and countless other reasons, and I will probably never tire of painting it.

Century Plant

I've always been interested in century plants. Until recently, I've never noticed the variety with yellow stripes on the leaves. This is a small study I did from a photograph of a local example.
