Here's the finished version of the painting I started below. I'm calling it "Oak on Hillside". I don't know if my framer (Carmel Rancho Art and Framing) will have time to get it framed before my show opens on Saturday, but I'll take it by tomorrow and see if they can manage. They do fantastic work and are always so easy to deal with. By the way, the reception for my opening is at A Taste of Monterey in Old Town, Salinas on Saturday the 19th. I hope you'll stop by, say hello, and sample some local wines.

Here's a look at what I'm currently working on. You can see some pieces of string and thread I've coated with frisket and stuck onto the surface of the paper. I'm masking out areas that will later become blades of grass. When all the background work is done, I'll pull off the string and rub off the frisket, and then paint in the lighter-colored grass. Since watercolor is, for the most part, transparent, I have to resort to this kind of trickery to depict light objects in front of darker ones.

Here's a look at my latest completed project. This is a view of the Salinas Valley from a ridge overlooking Chualar Canyon. I finished this to hang with a show that will open at the Salinas branch of "A Taste of Monterey" on 19 May. If you're in the neighborhood, I hope you'll stop by.
